Georgia Sheriffs’ Pineland / Camp Pioneer
In 1986, Mr. Joe Young left his 2,400 acre estate in Troup County to the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes. The property with beautiful rolling hills, lakes, and barns opened its doors to the first residents in 1991. Over the years, the property has been developed to include two cottages, an office, gym, chapel and a pool with a pool house. A portion of the property was developed as Camp Pioneer, a more rustic environment for connecting with nature through camping and rope courses. This venue is also used by other groups for special events and programs.
The campus has been the recipient of countless volunteer projects, including improvement of the education center by Key Club International and the construction of the beautiful chapel.
Students at Pineland participate in many outdoor activities, including gardening, fishing and hiking. They also participate in service to the community and help facilitate local events. Their closeness to nature in this beautiful environment helps them mature and develop with an appreciation for nature and outdoor activities.
