The greatest obstacle in my life was becoming a foster child. It took years to process all the changes that came with this obstacle. My plan has always been to overcome this, but now I accept this as my driving force to keep going and never give up on myself. I know now that as a 12-year-old I was given an opportunity at Pineland to have a safe and stable home. At Pineland, I became a soccer player, leading to a scholarship at Andrews College. I am grateful to all who have poured into my life.
Today, I’m a graduate of Callaway High School. The next step for me is to start college. I signed my letter of intent and scholarship agreement on April 22, 2024. Signing day was terrific because I shared it with my teammates and coaches. Many great people have poured into me, and I feel good about my future.
I shared with my sister that life is about choices and consequences. Last year, I decided to stay at Pineland because I would have missed the direction and clarity they provided for my life if I had left. I chose to stay because of the love and stability shown over the years. This home allowed me to meet my mentor family, with whom I could spend weekends and holidays. I relate to them as my family. For what they have provided for me, I am so grateful and honored to be a part of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes family at Pineland.
